Mikko Rantanen thinks the market could sign for $14 million a year. The 28-year-old Colorado forward could become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Under his current contract, his average annual salary (caphit) is $9. 25 million.
At the same time, according to TSN insider Pierre LeBrun, Rantanen and Avalanche will most likely agree on a contract extension before the free agent market opens. The forward previously stated that he wants to stay in Colorado.
Note that so far only one contract with a cap hit of $14 million has been signed in the league - a new agreement between forward Leon Draisaitl and Edmonton.
In Colorado, forward Nathan MacKinnon has the maximum cap hit (12. 6 million).
